Incorporate language learning in your routine. Start them when they are young. It is easier to make language and culture a part of their rountine when their brain is acquisited for it.
Get to know people of different cultures. Children begin to appreciate cultural differenceswhen someone they admire comes from a different background then their own. Make dinner together.
Once your child starts learning another language, increase your exposure by sending your child to an immersion school, joining a playgroup in another language, watching bilingual media, attending multicultural events, vacationing or living abroad, or hosting an exchange student.

I really agree with you. Sending a child to study abroad on an immersion program is a great idea. Not only can then learn so much more, they get to experience a new country, people and culture. Experiences that will surely stay with them for life.
