Whew! It happened

Last week we had our first Chinese Camp. Our teacher Lu Yao did some amazing things with the kids that got them very interested in the Chinese Language and Culture. Kids played traditional Chinese games, learned to write their name in calligraphy, conducted a mini Olympics in Chinese, experienced food, understood their zodiac sign and learned about the culture and the geography of China. Not to mention all of the Chinese words, phrases and songs they drilled each day. One participant said: " I want to learn Chinese everyday and when I grow up: I want to live in China and teach English to Chinese children"

Aquiring a Foreign Taste for Cultures and Languages

Incorporate language learning in your routine. Start them when they are young. It is easier to make language and culture a part of their rountine when their brain is acquisited for it.

Get to know people of different cultures. Children begin to appreciate cultural differenceswhen someone they admire comes from a different background then their own. Make dinner together.

Once your child starts learning another language, increase your exposure by sending your child to an immersion school, joining a playgroup in another language, watching bilingual media, attending multicultural events, vacationing or living abroad, or hosting an exchange student.

Culture for Kids

Raising Global Citizens
We all want our children to be comfortable in this increasingly global world. But how can we best help them understand and respect the different cultures around us?
